Provides health care delivery to rural and remote northern areas with largely First Nations and Inuit populations. Provides hospital based services in Norway House and Hodgson. Provides consultation to 12 Nursing Stations located in Berens River, Bloodvein, Chemawawin, Garden Hill, Grand Rapids, Little Grand Rapids, Pauingassi, Poplar River, Pukatawagan, Red Sucker Lake, St. Theresa Point and Wasagamach, and provides service to 8 Nunavut health centres.

Northern Medical Unit (NMU) offers primary and secondary care, preventive health measures, & health education. NMU delivers health care by nurse practitioners, family physicians & medical specialists; educational & summer programs for medical students; facilitates health care research in northern communities & responds to community requests for specific assistance.
